During the spring wildfire season, high winds, low humidity, and an abundance of fuels (leaves, pine needles, dead tree limbs, brush, etc.) can contribute to the likelihood of forest fires, field fires, and brush fires. Therefore, Virginia's 4:00 pm burn law takes effect Wednesday, February 15 and remains in effect until Sunday, April 30, 2017. While this law is in effect, burning is only allowed between 4:00 pm and midnight. This includes all outdoor fires, including recreational fires.
