Doug Davis Cheif of PoliceOn behalf of the men and women of the Waynesboro Police Department, I extend to you a warm welcome to our website. The Waynesboro Police Department is dedicated to the safety and well being of the citizens of, and visitors to, the City of Waynesboro. We work in partnership with all citizens and businesses to provide exceptional police services making Waynesboro a safe and enjoyable place to live, work, and play.

The men and women of the Waynesboro Police Department are highly trained and motivated professionals who work hard to maintain the highest level of service to the public. Chief Davis began his law enforcement career in July of 1977 with the Williamsburg, Virginia, Police Department.  After spending 3 years in Patrol, 5 ½ years in Investigations, 10 years as road Lieutenant, Chief Davis advanced to the rank of Major and took control of the Uniform Division.  While in command of the Uniform Division, Chief Davis was responsible for all patrol operations, special events and VIP visits.  He was later transferred to the Support Services Division and was responsible for personnel, building maintenance, technology, and strategic planning.  Chief Davis was also in charge of the 911 Center and was responsible for upgrading the radio system to include maintaining interoperability with surrounding jurisdictions and initiating phase I and II of the wireless 911 project.  In November of 2003, he was appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Waynesboro.  Chief Davis has a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminology from Saint Leo’s College and a Masters Degree in Justice and Risk Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Chief Davis is a graduate of the 198th Session of the FBI National Academy and the 2nd Session of the Professional Executive Leadership School conducted by the Virginia Police Chief’s Foundation at the University of Richmond’s Jepson School of Leadership Studies.  He is an active member of the Virginia Association of Chief’s of Police and the Virginia Police Chiefs Foundation.  He serves as 1st Vice President of the VACP Executive Board and serves on the Finance, Training and the Highway Safety Committees.  Chief Davis is also an active member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and President of the Central Shenandoah Association of Chiefs of Police.  Chief Davis is a member of other various boards and committees throughout the Shenandoah Valley and an Adjunct Professor at Blue Ridge Community College
