The Director of Planning provides oversight and direction of this department.
The Planning Department is committed to the most beneficial and sustainable physical, social, cultural and economic development of the City of Waynesboro. In pursuing this end, the Planning Department works closely with associated City departments, public agencies, private interests and citizens to create a preferred future for the City. Principle functions and responsibilities of the Planning Department include:
• Processing, reviewing and making recommendations on applications for conditional use permits, rezonings, subdivisions, and street closings.
• Reviewing and recommending revisions to city ordinances, particularly the zoning and subdivision ordinances.
• Historic preservation, transportation planning, environmental planning and community and economic development efforts.
• Advising and supporting the Waynesboro Planning Commission in pursuit of its various duties and initiatives including development of the City's Comprehensive Plan.
• Pursuing a variety of special projects related to community development and assists the City Manager's Office and city departments as required.
• Responding to citizen requests and inquiries.
