083010 The Waynesboro Department of Parks and Recreation is offering the following events. Persons requiring specific assistance in order to participate should notify us at the time of registration. Pre-registration is required for all classes. All classes and/or registration are held at Rosenwald Community Center unless specified otherwise. E-Notices E-Notices is a new email notification service that allows citizens to subscribe and receive updated information provided by the Department of Parks and Recreation, regarding programs, schedule changes, and more. LATCH
LATCH is a recreational after school child-care program offered at the following elementary schools: Berkeley Glenn, Wenonah, Westwood Hills and William Perry. It is held every day that school is in session (with the exception of early dismissal due to bad weather). Participants will have opportunities to participate in a wide variety of supervised activities including arts and crafts, homework time, games and free play.
Registration for the 2010-11 school year has begun. Fees for the program will be $30/week and there will be a $20 registration fee for children who were not enrolled in either LATCH or Camp Summer Fun during 2010. All registrations must be made in person with payment and completed forms.
Two Step Dancing
Experienced instructor, Donald Dollins will also be offering two-step classes if there is enough interest to support it. Please contact Mr. Dollins at (540)337-3173 if you’d like to learn the two-step, and he can give you more details.
Beginning Square Dance Lessons
Offering square dance lessons on Tuesdays at Kate Collins Middle School, Waynesboro from 7 – 9 PM. Instructor/caller will be George Jordan from Staunton, VA along with assistance from members of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club. Two FREE introductory lessons will be held on Tuesday, Sept 14 and Sept. 21. Come give it a try. Cost for 15 progressive lessons is $95 per person and $50 for youth 10 to 18. Sign-up will be Tuesday, Sept 21 at the end of the session. It is fun for families to learn together. Great exercise for mind and body as well as getting to know new people.
Ballroom Dancing These classes will give you confidence, grace, and lots of enjoyment, as you head out to the dance floor. Learn (or brush up on) popular dances such as: the Foxtrot, Swing, Waltz, Cha-Cha and the Rumba. Experienced instructor, Donald Dollins will be offering two different level classes…one for beginners and another for intermediate dancers. These are ongoing classes, and will continue as long, as there is interest. Please contact Mr. Dollins at (540) 337-3173 if you need any additional info, or call the Recreation office to register.

Men's and Women's Volleyball
The Waynesboro Department of Parks and Recreation upcoming 2010-2011 Men’s and Women’s Volleyball league is available to players ages 16 and older. If you wish to enter a team please contact the Recreation Department. Phone number is 540-942-6735.

Hunter Safety Class
The Waynesboro Parks and Recreation, in conjunction with volunteers for the VA Department of Game and Inland Fisheries will be conducting a Hunter Education Course. This course is free of charge and is necessary for all first time hunters as well as for those hunters desiring to hunt in most other states. All hunters who are 12 – 15 years of age also must take this course before purchasing a hunting license. Subjects covered are: Archery, Tree-stand Safety, Muzzle-loading & Modern Firearms, Survival and Ethics, as well as others. Pre-registration is required. Instructor: John Dunn

34th Annual Fall Foliage 5 and 10K Races
Historical neighborhoods will welcome you…crisp fall temps will greet you…warm apple cider will delight you – what a great way to spend a Saturday in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Join us for the 34th Annual Fall Foliage Festival 5K & 10K run and 5K walk. New for 2010 – 5K run! Racers will get a cotton long sleeve t-shirt, goodie bag and terrific finish line food.

"Winter Wonderland" Parade
Applications will be accepted for the annual Waynesboro Parks and Recreation parade, beginning on Tuesday, September 7. This year the parade is scheduled be at 7pm on Saturday, December 4. In case of inclement weather, Monday, December 6 will be the make-up date. For more information, please call the recreation office at 942-6735.
Stretch And Tone Anyone can benefit from this morning exercise program, just ask anyone of the members of Stretch and Tone! This class provides a good opportunity for toning up problem areas as well as a chance to meet new friends.
