Public Works Day ’10 is a one day grass roots event taking place on May 15th . Our goal is to promote interactive learning with an old-fashioned flair. This will mark the eleventh year that we have celebrated National Public Works Week with a special Saturday event. Public Works Week is an annual nationwide event signed into law by John F. Kennedy in 1962 to help educate people of the role of their public works department. This year’s event will be held at our Public Works Operations location at 900 Essex Avenue. Our theme for this year is “Public Works: Educating the Next Generation.”
The following activities will be available this year:
- Hands On River Restoration Project;
- A Public Works Children’s Museum Offering an opportunity for children to play and learn at the same time with such activities as: water taps for kids, how does sewer work from toilet to treatment, watershed play, bridge building, fix the traffic light, fleet repair, trash truck pretend – be a collector, and understanding river restoration;
- Children are offered the opportunity to operate a backhoe;
- Daring individuals can take a ride up forty feet high in a bucket truck;
