Port Republic Road Community Action Plan
In 2019, Port Republic residents worked closely with the City of Waynesboro to release a Request for Proposals that called for a neighborhood small area plan or action plan. Residents and city officials selected EPR, P.C. as the project consultants. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed this effort until the spring of 2022. The process included several calls with a neighborhood steering committee, referred to as PRRHCA (Port Republic Road Historical and Community Association). The committee hosted a community walking tour on May 4, 2022, and a multi-day workshop in early June 2022, which led to the Community Action Plan. the plan was adopted by City Council on November 14, 2022.
Three goals guide the plan: to preserve Port Republic’s historic resources, use its past to reinvest in its future, and improve the overall quality of life.
Each of the three goals has four associated action items that are fleshed out in action tables that identify the following:
- What this is and why it is important.
- Measures of success.
- Timeframe – initial steps, intermediate steps, long-term steps.
- Lead and support partners.
- Needed resources and possible sources.
