Commissioner of the Revenue

The Commissioner of the Revenue is the chief tax assessing officer of the local government. The Commissioner of the Revenue is a locally elected Constitutional officer. 


It is the mission of our office to provide exceptional service to our taxpayers and to ensure fair and equitable compliance of property, income and tax requirements as set forth by the General Assembly in the Code of Virginia, Title 58.1 and the Code of Ordinances set by the City Council for the City of Waynesboro. 


The Commissioner of the Revenue’s Office is responsible for the administration of the following programs:

  • Personal Property Tax Assessments
  • Motor Vehicle Registration 
  • Business License
  • Business Personal Property Tax
  • Short Term Rental Tax
  • Meals & Lodging Tax
  • Real Estate Tax Relief for the Elderly or Disabled
  • Disabled Veteran’s Tax Exemptions
  • Virginia State Income Tax
  • Virginia Estimated Tax
