Basic Park

Parks and sports fields are open. Shelters will reopen on July 1, 2020. Shelter reservations can me made online only, beginning  July 1.

The western boundary of this 18-acre park is the South River where anglers of all ages may test their skill fishing for bass, bluegill, catfish, and trout. In addition to fishing, the park provides a nice setting for picnics and softball. Basic Park has a newly renovated picnic shelter and also a softball field where adult softball leagues and tournaments can frequently be seen in play.

Ball Field

The field located at Basic Park is home to the coed softball league that begins in late April and continues through July. The field surrounding the softball diamond also serves as the practice site for the Waynesboro Quarterback Club, which benefits Waynesboro’s youth.  Practice begins In August and continues through November. 


The 45-by-55-foot picnic shelter typically houses 10 picnic tables (exact number is not guaranteed). This shelter has no electricity, no grill and no water. Port-a-potties are available year round.
